FACTS

  

  • Over 4,000 Canadians per year die by suicide, an average of almost 11 suicides a day. This disease affects people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.

     
  • In Ontario about 2% of adults and 12% of high-school students have reported the thought of suicide, and 3% of high-school students have reported attempted suicide.

     
  • More than 75% of suicides involve men, but women attempt suicide 3 to 4 times more often.
     
  • Individuals aged 45 or older are more than half people involved in suicide.
